One Percent for the Planet
Now in our third year as a member of 1% for the Planet, Spatsizi Wilderness Vacations is pleased to announce that our 2013 donation will be made to the Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition SWCC and Skeena Wild Conservation Trust. 1% for the Planet exists to build and support an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. Member businesses agree to donate an amount equal to 1% of gross sales to a non-profit organization looking to promote positive environmental change. It is important to us that the organization we contribute to be relevant to us and to our community.
SkeenaWild Conservation Trust is a regionally based organization that is “dedicated to bringing together governments, First Nations and members of the public in the Skeena Watershed to sustain the long-term health and resilience of the wild salmon ecosystem, while optimizing economic returns to First Nations and local communities”. The SWCC is a grassroots non-profit organization that aims to protect the headwaters of three rivers in northwest British Columbia. The Nass, Skeena and Stikine rivers are fed from an area that is remote, undeveloped, and has been referred to as the Canadian Serengeti. Their goal is educate people and encourage communities to take action and “Cultivate a sustainable future from a sustainable environment rooted in culture and a wild salmon ecosystem”.Their projects are diverse and include innovatative energy solutions, Youth on Water educational programs, contributing to baseline research and developing sustainable employment opportunities.
We are really proud to be a 1% for the Planet member and with our ability to support two groups that are so prominent in overseeing a healthy sustainable Skeena country.
