2011 Fishing Update
2011 season was a good year for us in Spatsizi. It was a wet year.. but we found some feisty rainbows, huge bull trout and some fantastic hatches in July and August. Our first few week in July started off with some great local fishing and some of our key fly-out destinations proved to be fantastic. The green drake started to come off around the end of July and we saw some epic dry fly mania for quite a few days. For those serious anglers, we had to match the hatch down to the exact size, color and drift. As always our Spatsizi "swing" and "dance the dry fly" techniques proved to be a good choice for those hungry aggresive trout. Head guide, Billy Labonte used new "secret" Bull trout flies that were deadly for the 8-12 lb fresh water sharks! Ray Collingwood had a great season the Firesteel River, lots of dry fly action, great food, stories and moose viewings. Clay Collingwood and Tim Brown kept us safe flying and took us to some great waters. The kitchen crew Janice Gilbert and Jamie Hopps kept the waders quite snug, the lodge and cabins in great condition and served some scrumptious meals.
