2009 Highlights
:
The 2009 fishing season has come to
an end, and "wow!" what a season it was. July
started off with weather that was a little cool and
some higher than normal water levels, but by mid July
it was full on summer. The skies were blue, the
air was warm, the water was crystal clear, and the hatches
were great. The dry fly fishing was exceptional
and trout were eagerly rising, and we saw plenty of
wildlife. Of course we experienced a rainy day here
and there when Mother Nature reminded us that Spatsizi
does get wet! Big green drakes were coming off
all summer thanks to our overall wonderful weather.
Other hatches included baettis, caddis flies and a great
stone fly hatch mid July.
Our group of exploratory anglers visited some trophy rainbow lakes in August and we landed some 4 to 7 lb rainbows. The serene getaway on the Firesteel River was a big hit with plenty of hook ups, dry fly mania and plenty of moose, not to mention the warm host service of Ray and Beannie. Laslui Lodge saw a minor facelift with new flooring, a kitchen renovation, and peak-style windows. A new water purification system was also installed. The guests' cabins all received new mattresses and will get new duvets for 2010. Thanks to the hard work of our building crew, with special recognition to Robert, the new staff building is complete.

Crew Corner:
Once again our splendid crew made Spatsizi a special unique place to visit. Our kitchen crew, Danielle, Angela, and Edith, did a great job and the guests left with their waders a little snugger each day. A special thank you to Chef Geoffrey Couper (Corked Cork) who blew everyone away with his culinary magic. Geoffrey incorporated some of BC's finest wines with his incredible food. We had a diverse guide team including Ray Collingwood, Bob Wickwire, Billy Labonte, Clay Collingwood and Tyler Owen. Ray and Bob have a combined 85 years of guiding know-how. If you can't catch fish with these guys, you'd better go back to fishing with worms! Tyler, our rookie guide, was our Bull Trout specialist, whose clients got into some of the biggest Bull Trout in the 10 - 12 lb class. The workhorses, our airplanes, did a fantastic job - our Cessna 185 "TQO", and the Wilga, that our clients loved for providing the best viewing for all the fly-outs, with pilot/guide Clay Collingwood. Tim Brown and his plane, "GUNK", performed great and are an invaluable part of our aviation and guide crew. Gloria and Janice kept our office well organized, ensured the lodge was well stocked, and took care of all those last minute details. We thank all of our guests who visited us in 2009 and we look forward to seeing you and new friends in 2010!
